What does an exhuast leak sound like from the headers?

I've heard stories of shorttube headers being notorious for leaking on LT1s... i'm experienceing alot of drivetrain noise i'm not used to since i got cam/heads/rockers etc... but somethin doesnt sound quite right. What does an exhuast leak sound like from the headers? i hear like a really muffled pop that increases with rpm that doesnt quite sound like the rocker noise which sounds more mechanical/metallic then this sound.

Right. Sounds like tick tick tick etc. After I installed my headers, I started hearing that sound. I tightened the header bolts a couple times, it made no difference, then I traced the sound to a loose spark plug. It was about 1.5 turns loose, I thought for sure it was a header leak, or something worse like bent pushrod. Double check your plugs, that could be it.

mine leaked and sounded like a rapid ticking. it was coming from the EGR delete. but i fabbed a good peice of meatal with a gasket and sealed it up tight. you may also want to look at symptoms of needing a LT4 knock module

Yeah, my exhaust leak sounds like a constant tick tick tick. I'm pretty sure its an exhaust leak at the EGR/header connection. I'll know for sure when I try to block it off this spring/summer.

    ?

if you use the paper type gaskets. i like to soak them in hot water for awhile and then install them...hand tight then fire it up and let it warm up good and cool down....retighten and they should be good to go for a while with no leaks..any body else ever soak the gasket first??

Why would you use the paper gaskets? Those things are unreliable junk. Throw the paper ones out and go by some OE metal gaskets.
