Valve stem seals you think?

Im having this issue with burning oil, i go to school approx 50 miles from my house and at least once a week my car is down a quart or two. Im currently getting a brand new trans installed but need to know what this problem could be, the trans mechanic was talking about valve stem seals etc... The other day after washing my car i looked inside my tips and it seems as though there was oil, so i dipped my finger inside my tips and got an dark film, which means oil is getting into my exhaust.......you all are the smart ones, any ideas of what the problem could be...price range to solve?

Could be valve seals/ guides, or it could be rings. One way or the other, oil is getting to the chambers. Valve seals it going to be the easiest and cheapest thing to try. Only the valve covers, spark plugs, and valve springs need to be pulled to do that. To put in new valve guides, the heads have to be pulled, and to put in new rings you're basically talking about a full motor rebuild.

when you first start it does it blow blue smoke?
