only thing I ever hated about the LT1 and do not miss is the Opti-Spark, otherwise, I like them...they can get up to 155-160 (My Formula topped out at 155, my TA somewhere around 160, both when stock and I wasn't very smart), which is good enough to make a lot of kills...if you let them go, are a hard hard pill to swallow from a roll, or given a head start in a drag race. I only went with the LS1 because I don't have a lot of cash and wanted a little more power to start with, plus they have more folks that work on LS1s around here vs. Lt1s...

I got looked down on by a lot of LS1 guys...and now some WS6 guys...till I smack um with my stroker

(i went back and read the rest of the thread after I posted, lol)

There are plenty of LT1's that can put LS1's down, but the visa-versa is true also. I don't hear people hating on the old 350's and 396's because they don't put out as much power as the 350's and 396's of today.
    I've always liked the LT1, good motor. I take a LT4 in a heartbeat

    Thanks for any input.
mid to low 13s generally speaking on LS1, more like 13.4-13.3 all day.,,
    I've seen a 12.9 pulled a while back..

How much is involved in converting a 94 LT1 into an LT4??

Let's just say you'd be better off going a different route if you are looking for a heads/cam package. Don't get me wrong, the LT4 makes good power, but for 1 thing, GM doesn't make the parts anymore, and you can get more power out of the same budget. Its a decent cam, increase up top and can be a DD cam, but you can find better. The only thing that might be worth it is the LT4 intake, which is discontinued. You can find some on e-bay or tear one out of a C4 corvette from a junkyard.

Thanx...I always appreciate u guys' information...I am still stuck in the "Holley / high rise " era of experience!! I didn't realize the LT4 parts were "out of print"...guess that was a bad idea. I am worried about making coordinated changes so the air flow capabilities are "balanced" in the air meter, plenum and intake and heads...all working well with whatever cam I use. ARe there any kinda "packages" out there in the aftermarket??

Tons of package options. Lloyd Elliot is a name that floats around here quite often when it comes to stuff like that. www.eportworks.com
I don't know a whole lot on heads and cams, but Comp Cams is a big name. Just do a search, you'll come up with a lot.

As far as the LT4 being discontinued, there are still places with the package available, but its limited and with GM not making them anymore, the price has gone up. You'll just have to find a place that still has them in stock if you want the LT4 package.

Not a problem man. That's why we are all here. To give fellow V8 enthusiasts help and advice. I've asked a lot of these same questions before, that's why I know some of the answers. Because someone else with know-how gave me the same answers. Its a circle of knowledge. And you learn from experience. Because no one else wants somebody to break the same shit that they did.

You'll also have to keep in mind with time variances are varibles. Such as temperature, altitude, track prep, track conditions, mileage...etc.

Those 2.73's will kill ya'. I'd say with a bone stock LT1 with just an open cutout should cut into the 13's. With good traction of course.

    94 TA:
Magnaflow Catback, SLP Cold Air Intake, MadZ28 Tune.
    13.96 @ 98.56, on 275-40-17 Sumitomo HTRz2 tires.
Lousy 2.11 60ft. With sticky tires, 13.60's should be no problem.

If you were running the stock 8" wheels, the 245's would prvide a better contact patch, and therefore better traction.
