I was thinking of just buying this:

Does anyone object? or have a better route - I am not a mechanic. and I do not understand much about what I would need to do if I went another route.

Why not put the money into the LS1 you have?

My bad. Thought you had done an ls1 conversion. What are you looking to do with the car? Also is that $11k just for the motor?

Yeah, I guess I should have worded it a bit different. OP, what do you plan on doing with the car - mainly drag racing, or just looking for some more power, ect...

IMO, you'd be better off using that $11k to build yours up. You could achieve the same for less, with what you already have.

You can achieve near that level with a set of Lloyd Elliot heads, cam, injectors and a tune will get you 450.

gmpartsdirect has an LsX engine for about $5-6 new, food for thought.
Also, FWIW take it from someone who took out $40 k from my 401k, Uncle Same will anal assault you w/taxes... YMMV

There is tons of potential with the LT1 platform, but for the money you'll pay with that engine you can have one built with better parts and making more power. 450rwhp out of a naturally aspirated streetable LT1 is well within reach.

I can't believe no one has told the OP how pulling $11K out of his 401K for car parts is a DUMB idea!!!

You are 26 yrs old. Taking out $11K now is going to take a big hit on your overall value later on.

I personally would save up on my own until I could afford it. Don't mess with your retirement. That's my 2 cents.

Amen to this.. Some plans offer the option to borrow from the 401-k plan.
Thats a bit better but the best route is to pick up a second engine with problems and do the whole thing in stages as it is affordable. Never screw with the retirement money. Words from a retired guy.

I sell you my Camaro for $4000. You could pull the motor (LS1) and trans to put in yours. Sell your motor and trans and the rest of the camaro. Take that money and the $7000 ($11000-$4000) and build a monster.

Wait on it and put cash aside. That golen engine uses a scatt 9000 series crank and I belive the 9000's are cast. Using cast with 500BHP no way man failure waiting to happen and then GOOD BY 11K bucks. I built my 383 on a budget using LE2 heads and cam for 5k to 6k bucks. It should be making about 380 at the wheels. I went real conservitive on the cam and built it for torque. When it hits second gear at about 2500 that ass dances along the roadway like a stripper on a 300 dollar lap dance. And I have 10 inch....ers out back. lol
