Oil leak at front of engine...

Any known problem areas here? My LT4 Firehawk has a leak somewhere at the front. I know about the intake manifold leak, but it's at the rear, right? This looks like it's either the front cover or the sensor that screws into the side of it near the bottom (crank trigger?).

It's got 14,000 miles on it, and I'll be fixing it myself unless it something stupid. If it's the front cover, somebody's gonna have to talk me out of replacing the cam while the cover is off already. I kinda hope it's the sensor, but I doubt it. Is there anything else that I should be looking at instead?

    Thanks!

    -Mike

The timing cover is pretty much the only thing on the front of the motor that would leak (or a sensor on the cover). Make sure though that it isnt coming from the oil pan itself just below the timing cover.

That's what I figured...but I'm fat and didn't get it on the lift, yet...so I really couldn't tell. It looks like it's up above the oil pan by an inch or a little more, so I figured it probably isn't that.

So...what kinda cam should I put in an otherwise stock LT4 while I've got the cover off?

well, the LT4 hotcam isnt a huge cam, but will work with an otherwise stock motor, although headers and exhaust will help tremendously. People have made 340+ rwhp with the LT4 hotcam and bolt ons, with an otherwise stock motor.

It's almost stock. It has SLP's extrude honed manifolds, which are supposed to flow like shorty headers. Also I have a Loudmouth on it. Otherwise, it's as it was from SLP. I've been meaning to have the computer reprogrammed to take advantage of the LT4...since SLP left the LT1 computers alone. I imagine that's all I'll do, with a possible exception of the cam...depends on $$$ when I get the leak fixed.
