New LT1 Owner
Hey guys. I registered a while ago, sold my 98 SS and then quit coming here. Im back now with another GM. I bought a 96 Formula WS.6 with a 6 speed. Ive got a few questions. Ive heard about "free" mods to the LS1 but what about the LT1? If so what are they? Right now my car has shorty headers, custom Bluecat tune and a hotcam. Its a true Ram Air car so is a aftermarked lid worth the expense or should I just stay with the factory ram air setup with a K&N drop in? Later on I want to do a LT4 upgrade. Is this worth the time? Is there any other aftermarket intake manifold besudes the Edelbrock one? Thanks for all the help

If you do an LT4 intake you need the heads too, or some after market heads are made for lt4 intakes. lt4 heads flow a little better than an lt1 head but there are better heads out there that flow better than an lt4. they are rare and becoming hard to find at a reasonable price.

Im gonna go ahead and stay with the LT1 H/C. Are there any free mods to do to the LT1 besides weight reduction. I'm not into the whole gutting of a car besides removing the rear seats and maybe the sound deadner under the carpet. My next mod is going to be LT headers. I think Im going to go with the Eddy rpm intake from Jegs and a set of AI heads with a custom grind cam in the future.

Not that many free mods. Make it breath. Headers with a tune works good and sets you up for future mods. Cold air really helps the LT1's cause the ducting is so restrictive. no need for any MAF work. and don't buy SLP crap. the CAI is about 15 pounds and a pain in the ass go with a moroso or something. Cat backs: be careful if you want to do Longtube headers cause if you by a loudmouth for it it will be raspy once the cats are gone and the tubes on. One of the best mods I did was to get rid of the lt1 brakes and put a set of 98-02 calipers and rotors on the front. you can get the brakes from any 98-02 V6 car in the Junk yard. or you can get corvette front brakes but the camaro/Bird from 98-02 fit in a 16inch wheel and are basically the same thing.

Ported stock heads, a cam, bigger injectors and a tune will put you way over 400bhp.
