New guy here with a question
Hello everyone
Well I bought a 94 z28 with about 93,xxx m iles on it and I need a trany for it I was wondering if the trany on the 3.8 or 3.4 camaro or firebird would bolt on to the lt1

I think it should just bolt right up but im not sure why you would want a weaker tranny. Doesnt the V6 auto have a 3 speed instead a of a 4 speed in the V8? And the manual has a 5 speed instead of a 6.

I am pretty sure the bellhousing bolt patterns are different. I know the 6 spd wont bolt up, and I dont think the auto will work without modification

The V6 gets a 4-speed auto but I think the bell housing is different on those.
You will need a V8 one. Internals are the same but the case is not. The V6 uses a 5-speed vs the 6-speed for the V8.

there are adapter plates, but don't waste your time. the v8 will blow up that tranny very quickly and then you'll have wasted time and money. You're better off grabing a 6 spd from a junkyard. unless you're changing your rear gears too, I'd grab an M29. the wide ratio tranny mn6 would have really bad acceleration with your .3.23 rear gears. 1st gear would probably go close to 70mph. there are calculators to see the exact speed. either way manual is more fun and the auto will just blowup again.

No, you can't use ANY V6 transmission bell housing.
Except for 3rd gen F-bodies with the BOP v6 bell housing (which you can't use either) all 3rd, 4th, and 5th gen v6 cars use the 60 degree v6 bell housing.
All 3rd (except for the 3rd gen BOP cars) and 4th gen v6 cars get the same 4spd automatic transmissions as the v8 cars, whether a 700r4, or 4L60e as stated above the bell pattern is that of the 60 degree v6.
3.8L Buick powered 3rd gen f-bodies got the BOP pattern which is unique to only early Buick v6 engines.
The LS1 bell housing does'nt even come close to matching either.
You need a bell that matches the early small block chevy type pattern.Last edited by Smittro; 01-27-2012 at 04:41 AM.

Smittro, does his car have the 4L60 or the 4L60-E? I know the vette changed to the E in 94 but not if the F-body got it that year or followed up the next year like it usually happens.

It should be noted also the factory T5 5spd manual trany is a weak unit and was not designed to handle 4th gen f-body LT1 (275+hp) or it's torque numbers.
You'll either need to go backwards to something in the early Muncie 4spd trany's or find an LT1 (SBC) patterned 6spd to hold your power numbers effectively.
