ok ive got a friend who just got a 97 formula a4 bone stock, hes selling his other car and going let me mod his out says he wants 400hp, but its got 130k+ on it so im thinking this is what i would do what do u guys think, swap out the 2.73 rear to a 3.42 rear, get a good stall, off road pipe no cats new exhaust K&N FIPK new throttle body ported polished, new hi po MAF, 160 t stat and a diablo preadtor what do u guys think? this prolly wont net 400hp but im sure itll give him a real seat of the pants feel, and these mods will be easy to do by myself, seeing i never have help on anything i do

At the very least, you'll need a new cam to hit that 400 mark. A bolt-on LT1 won't reach 400. Gears are a good start, full exhaust, a matching stall, skip the MAF, just de-screen the stocker, maybe some head work with some 1.6rr's.

i promise if you do exahust gears and suspension(subframe connectors tubular everything) it will be faster than what you have described. these cars already have more hp. than suspension. thats just my opionion. but your on the right start by asking questions instead of jumping right into it.

Well, I guess you'll be aiming for a full bolt-on car then.

If you were talking 400 flywheel, then that's approx. 350 at the wheels - i've seen many stock-headed LT1's with good cam, long-tubes and full bolt-ons achieve that number. Good tuning is the key.
