    1999 Trans AM 30th anniv.

    Lt1 Swap

    Looking at putting a lt1 into my grandsons new truck,66 GMC v6 4m all original, 94000 miles one owner, he has 1 1/2 years to go thru this truck before he can drive ,good project for him!!!! any help would be appreciated,never tackled one before.

    well id say get a whole setup engine,computer,tranny all the wiring just remember fast engine+young kid= lots of tickets and speeding

    probably will let him drive the V6 for a couple years and just start collecting the LT1 stuff

    As much as I am a fan of LT1s, I think it would be far easier and cheaper to put in a gen 1 carbed small block and just build it up. More power could be had for less money. It would also be a ton easier to wire up. Just my .02$

    If you really want to go the LT1 route, the easiest route would be to find a complete motor and tranny, along with it's accompanying PCM and wiring harness. You would also need custom motor mounts, some LT1 cooling system parts, and many other things I cant think of right now.

    I would suggest checking with local junkyards and getting a complete setup from a firebird, camaro or caprice.

    You could more than likely get the engine tranny for around $1000.
