when built right there is nothing wrong with the lt1's.
As for the opti's there are many fixes for it out there.. so there is no excuse about opti problems ..

I don't think I have heard anyone say my LT1 is slow. Yes people still make fun of the LT1 owners but they can be built. Most of the sbc parts interchange without to many problems. The first generation small blocks have been running some serious numbers. It just comes down to what type of combo you build. If you put a high revving cam in and leave a set of 2.73 in it with a small stall it is going to be a pig.The first nitrous powered LT1 in the 8's.
