LT1 question?
I recently got a 96 firebird, I want to clean up the engine compartment,
I am getting a set of hooker LT's, and want to know what can I do with the tubes coming out of my manifolds? I live in Mich and dont need to pass emissions. so can I remove them, and what do they do? also anything else I can remove to clean up the engine bay? thanks

Those are the A.I.R. tubes, they inject fresh air from your air pump to lower emissions. I had my air pump turned off when the computer was re-flashed and I capped off the air tubes with bypass caps and capped off the bungs in my headers with oil drain plugs. I plan on completely removing the tubes and pump also.

Welcome to the wonderful world of no smog restrictions. While you're at it you can remove the EGR and if you don't mind a little crackle and pop during decel. then remove the cats and get a cut-out. Plus, by removing the air pump, your engine bay will look "cleaner" without all the unnecessary crap in there. You'll have to get your PCM tuned to delete it, otherwise you'll throw a "SES" code. I live in SE Michigan and take my car to Wheel to Wheel Racing in Troy to have my car tuned.

You'll need an EGR block off plate... which is not more than an oval shaped piece of flat metal that basically covers the hole left when you remove the EGR pipe. The block off plate is really cheap ($5.00)... especially if you make one yourself. thick sheet metal, black silcone sealer/ gasket and bolt it in place.

OBTW- While you're getting it tuned have them delete the downstream oxygen sensors that are behind the cat. Those are just smog restrictions as well

Yeah the EGR valve is mounted at the rear of the intake manifold. It's not too hard to remove, you just gotta dig in back there. The EGR valve only has 2 bolts mounting it to the manifold.

There are a bunch of them on ebay, or if you have the ability to fab metal, then you could just make them yourself.
