what problems may i run into taking the heads off a 97 lt1 for a blown head gasket other than it being a tight working space?

You may run into the problem that caused the gasket to blow....
such as: warped or cracked head.
you may ruin a couple plug wires during the procedure...
broken, frozen and stripped exhaust manifold bolts may also be a issue.

thanks yes i am almost positive that the head is warped i am going to have it sent out and milled down but i was just wanting to know if i will need to drop the motor down to get the exaust off or any other big things i migh see i dont want to get half way through the job and start running into a chain of problems so if any one has done head gasket on them and know something that can help me out to save myself time and work.

If only one head is warped you must resurface both heads equally,
otherwise you will have a serious compression and power imbalance.
You don't need to drop the motor to change the heads....

im doing good i have gotten it all apart and the heads all cleaned up i am about to start putting it back together and add some lts with a y pipe. The only problems i see that i might have is making sure i get all the senors hooked back up in the right spot and all the vacumm lines as well. i suggest marking them some how to give youself a chance to get them all hooked up right, but other than that it just took some time and man handling.

dry fit your intake first. if too much was taken off you have to have your intake faced too, otherwise you will have a vacuum leak. check with the machine shop as to whether or not it should be done.

I took close up pictures of my vaccuum tubes and stuff before I dismantled everything when I did my head gaskets. I didnt run into any problems other than getting the rocker arms properly tightened. One or two was too tight so one of the valves stuck open and caused the engine to miss real bad. So I actually paid someone $150 bux to adjust them right. Maybe I whimped out at the last minute but it was an easy fix for him. I didn't know what it was, so I just let this guy look at it. Since then I adjusted some rocker arms on a Honda Accord and I didnt mess it up. But I bought the feeler gauges to tell me how much slack/space was between the rocker arm and the push rod. To adust those rockers there is a process to follow. I guess you know that.
