    Lt1 Engine Miss

i have a 96 trans am lt1 with low power/ engine miss at low rpms. Seems to come and go. Engine light sometimes comes on while this is happening (always #7 cyl miss fire). #7 has a new plug and wire. I am planning on replacing the rest of the plugs and wires. I am wondering if the opti spark can also cause this. Any help would be appreciated.

If you've upgraded to fresh plugs and wires, and it's still showing a code for cyl #7, I would say more than likely it is your opti. Time to replace/upgrade.

I had the same prob with mine. When you come to a light and sit a min it has a rough idle. When you start to go it is like it is starving for gas. I found the #7 plug wire was bad. it got up against the header and was burned. Replaced that and now it is fine.

Before I jump to say its an opti problem you have a few more things to look at. Swap the #7 and #5 injector and see if the issue follows.

there's something else wrong. it is either being installed wrong, or some other issue is making it fail. Optis dont fail that often.

Like 5.0 said, there has to be something else causing the failure. The MSD is a solid unit. If someone had two replace 2 MSD opti's in just 30,000 miles, the opti is not the direct problem.

so because you know a couple other people with the same problem it means the optis are the problem? no.

they're being installed wrong, or another issue is contributing to their early demise.
