LT1 and LS1 are two completely different engines entirely. The good news is that a well ported set of LT1/LT4 heads with the right cam shaft can make great power!!!

Personally I rather build up an LT1 over an LS1.

    Navy Blue Metallic
    98 Formula

That was also insanely expensive compared to the LS1 to produce any real power gains.

Just because it's aluminum doesnt mean it isnt strong. Block design means more in many places than does material. The mains of the motor are still iron, and the cylinder liners are forged aluminum coated in nikasil. It's a stout piece.

Yea its true, but I just rather have an iron block for some reason. I know the LS1 is still a strong motor, it can hold what 500-550hp on stock internals?

Plus I just love the way LT1s sound with cam and headers over an LS1 with cam and headers

Only on the camaro and vette. The heads were cast iron on the SS impalas/caprice and all the cop cars.

Wow I have never heard this before,,,but everyone pretty much covered that.

There are other good options out there for the LT1 though. AFR makes a nice head for it,,,flows great and makes big power. Also Edelbrock is making both an LT1 head and even an LT4 version to go with there LT4 intake they are also making. Which is good to hear since GM discontinued all that stuff

Or sending the stock LT1 heads out to be ported would be great, someone that knows what they are doing like Lingenfelter/Lloyd Elliot etc...make big power with stock LT1 castings that are ported.

    That's a lie! Blasphemy!

Yes they can, but everything needs to be well-thought-out and executed correctly for them to really shine - just like with anything else.
