    Smile headers

i have a 96 trans am lt1 , and just wandering , i dont have the money to get long tube and have them put on, but i heard shorty headers just bolt right up to your stock exhaust. I was just needing to know if they are anygood at all and worth getting?

Save up for long tubes. Pacesetter makes some rather inexpensive headers, and are have been quite popular lately.

yeah long tubes are alittle bit more work but well worth it. you get a couple guys together and it will take you about 3-4 hours depending on how hard it is to get your old bolts off your manifold.

Shorties don't flow worth shit. Just look at how the primaries bend. You can't tell me shit flows well through those.
Pacesetter LT's are the way to go. Headers and ORY shipped for around $520. Can't beat that price.

Do it right and get the coated ones. The painted ones will flake within the first week and then start to rust sooner. Coated headers will rust too, but they take longer to do so, like a few years. Plus coating helps keep under hood temps downs while looking nice under the hood.
The only way to avoid rusting, is to pop for some stainless steel headers, but those are the cream of the crop and damn expensive. Nice if you can afford them, but they go for around $800+.

Don't go to Texas Speed for Pacesetters. That is the highest price I have ever seen for pacesetter LT's.
I got coated LT's with Y for $520. Average price though is about $550. $700 is way overpriced.

i have mac mid length headers and love them!!! they give great powe, i htink Andy or 5.0this is runnin AS&Ms which are a nother great header....
LTs are nice for the power and you can find them dirt cheap... install maybe a little difficult, but possible, plug access isnt optimal. WIth macs i can change my plus with a a socket wrench, plug socket and and open end box end in 30 minutes from the top of my car. I think i saw some macs on LS1tech or on camaroz28 for like 300 used... i think i bought mine for 225 used.

No, mine were the coated Pacesetters. It would be dumb to go through all that work for painted ones that flake and rust quickly. Like I said, I paid $520 for coated LT's and ORY. And Pacesetter doesn't make a catted Y for their LT1 longtubes.

gains would be minimal there for the cost, the reason for a cutout usually is to bypass the cats and muffler, i'd save up for the headers but thats just me

that wrap can actually trap in moisture and promote rust and like you said you cant see it, the ceramic coating helps keep underhood heat under control, with in 25mins of a run at the track a couple months ago i could wrap my hand around the primary with out even slight discomfort but the rest of the motor was still hot as hell
