    A/C Compressor

Has anyone replaced an A/C compressor? Is it really difficult?

If I release the pressure in the system on the high and low side, how does the high side get it's pressure back? Is it automatic? I know we only charge the system on the low side, but how does the high side get recharged after the installation?

When you release the static pressure both sides vent all the refrigerant, when you charge it both sides fill simultaneously. I've never changed one on a car but do home AC - same principle.

Static pressure is just the pressure in the system with the compressor not running. With it off both sides have equal static pressure, for example if you put gauges on both sides of the system they'll read the same, like around 100 psi depending on the ambient temperature, when the compressor starts the low side pressure goes down and the high side pressure goes up. Make sure at the very least you pull a vacuum on it before recharging.

you shouldnt just release the refrigerant. bring it somewhere and have them evacuate the system. it is illegal to just release it into the air.
