Back about 10 yrs ago my friend had a silver LT1 t-top M6 Z28. Full Bolt ons, Full Suspension, 410 gears. We went 170 running from the cops about 8 at night in Texas.

No speedometer errors? Gotta love V8 cars!
I thought I saw a test somewhere with a stock LS1 F-body that hit 163 and never hit the limiter.....could be wrong. In the same write up I thought that a Z28 topped out at 158 when it hit the speed limiter.

i could be making this up but i think i read somewhere that the ss didnt have the speed limiter but the reg z28 did..

Mine came with Z rated tires so the limiter up past 150, like 168 i think
LS1s live for top end, the pull up top is the best part
That last part was for insurance purposes right

Most manufacturer's speedometers are notoriously optomistic, especially at high speeds. A better way to calculate at high speeds is using your gear ratios and rpm.

eh doubt it i took my friends stock 02 z28 up to 163 on the highway ill tell you what my 98 z does in a few weeks when i put the trans back in and i use gps for my high speed runs not my speedo but they did read the same Originally Posted by Maro SS

how do you know you were doing 170 did you get clocked? i went 158 in the Z with the LT1 and it would NOT go any faster, no limiter, it had 28" tall tires and 4.11s in the 9" but only reason i know is because i was running my friends LS1 swapped S10 and i had TTS Datamaster logging the run due to weird sensor issues in my car. as far as i knew that night i was only up to about 145 it never hit 150 on the speedo but on the log it was 158. the speedos in these cars SUCK! along with the 400RPM off tach

He had a recalibrated granatelli 200mph guage face and the motor spun more rpm's than stock. We did not get pulled over.
