    97 TA won't start

My buddy has a 97 TA and a couple months ago his fuel pump died on him. So the other day we install a new one from autozone and the car won't fire at all. We had a pressure gauge hooked up that was reading 0 psi but when I hit the purge button it would purge gas thru the gauge. I can hear the pump when he turns the key over, and yes we have gas in it. Any suggestions on something we might have missed would be greatly appreciated at this point in time.

    Thanks

It is the original fuel filter......but, when we have the line disconnected before the filter we get no gas coming out of the line when we turn the key over and the fuel pump pumps up.

Change the fuel filter either way. Are you positive the pump is running? When you replaced the pump did you get the whole assembly or just the pump itself?

always when replacing the fuel pump, replace the filter too, always use AC Delco original parts, check electrical connections .... aftermarket pumps made in China are poor quality, cheap and does not always work ... if there is no fuel in the lines and the power to fuel pump is OK, replace pump again .......

I was a manager at autozone and we saw alot of fuel pumps with defects, always go with GM parts. Good luck!

So we had to take a break from working on this cause he was going through some family issues. Everything's cool though. We got it running finally! The problem was that the "sock" fell off and the pump was trying to suck the thing in...Haha! So it is running and tearing up the streets once more.

    Thanks for the suggestions
