red- 93 firebird, LT1, auto
93 firebird still quitting help
my 93 firebird. LT1, auto stock, keeps quitting after about 10 min, fuel pressure is fine 40 to 45, losing fire coming out of coil, have replaced coil and icm, no help. Let it set for 10 min it will crank n run but not for long, same thing no fire coming out of coil. what can i check next help im lost.

I'm telling you opti does this.
My friend that still has his opti said his did the same crap. One yr he replaced it 4 times. He is currently in the middle of swapping over to a LS1.

He was doing it wrong then. It isn't a great design, but they don't break that often. Either the install was fucked up, or something else was wrong causing the opti to fail.
As far as the OP, it is likely the opti. The opti failing doesn't always manifest itself as a misfire.

They're not that finicky. Something else was wrong.
As for the replacement... you'll find good and bad opinions on every single one of them out there. A factory delco unit is a good bet. Do a google search on "best opti replacement" and there's probably a good couple hours of reading for you to do if you really want to. You will of course want to convert to a vented opti, as they're much more resistant to moisture. And whatever unit you go with, take the cap off and Loctite the rotor screws.

Go with the ac delco one. If it is original then the car got 20 years out of it. Definetly upgrade to the vented one.
