*HELP* Just died in traffic

Ok i have a 96 trans am lt1, and i just went to the car wash to go wash my motor off and went to crank it after i washed it off and it took about 7 tries to finally get it crank, then it ran perfectly fine and i drove about 10 miles and stopped and got gas and it cranked perfect again , well got about 2 miles in the busy ass traffic and was sitting at a stop light and went to take off and my car just died and wouldt crank back up, i tried so many times the battery went dead, and got someone to jump me off and it would turn over and over and sputter and wouldnt crank. SO WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON? Is it the opti , or fuel pump or what? i have no idea , just got home just now and tow truck just unloaded my car.................please anyone know whats up

sounds like the opti....check for spark intensity to verify the opti, also check fuel pressure to make sure it ain't the fuel pump.....but sounds like opti to me

forgot to add.....mine did the same thing when opti died...

so u think its the opti huh, i have people telling me its the alternator, its the opti, or its the fuel pump? i am freakin clueless. Does anyone wanna call me and talk about this shit, cause its pissing me off, i am stumped!?!?!?!?!?!?!

the way it sounds...it's definitely not the alternator...if it was the car would have started and run but would have lost it's charge while running.

It can either be the opti spark, fuel pump, or even coil......The reason I said it sounded like the Opti is mine did the same dang thing. Check to see if you have fuel pressure at the fuel rail. If you have pressure....then check ignition items. Start looking for STRONG spark at the wires, and work your way back til you can isolate the issue.

It would kinda be helpful to know a little more about the car...ie mileage etc. I heard the Opti spark usually goes in the 90-110k mile range.

well just tested my coil pack and its got fire to it...ouch... it got me lol but your opti fires your coil, and coil fires the rotor , so the coil has fire which means opti is good and replace the cap and rotor
