    WS6 worth it?

Is it worth it to buy a WS6 vs a Trans Am with a ram air hood? The only advantages of the WS6 (besides the ram air hood) that I know of is the upgraded suspension.

Yes, I think so. WS6 cars also have a power steering cooler. However, all cars with 6-speeds have a 3.42 rear gear. All AT WS6s have 3.23, only TAs with the performance gear got the 3.23, other AT cars had 2.73.

They should have a higher value, a little at least, then standard TAs.

It's worth it for the looks. If your buying it because it has more power a lid and catback will would put your right back there w/ a slp or ws6. Again just a looks thing.

If your like me then no. I rip though factory parts and replace them. WS6 has upgraded suspension but you can just buy aftermarket and they'll be much better. like the other guy said, power difference is only a couple parts. My Trans Am cam with 3.23's for the A4 but i'm putting 3.73's now anyway.
If you like the hood I bough a aftermarket WS6 hood for $250. Maybe collectable someday but if you drive it like I drive mine it'll be dead long before it's a collector.
I personally loved the firehawks. if i was going to spend extra i would get one of those. I see WS6 TA's as much if not more than regular ones. I see very few firhawks.
It comes down to the best deal. I like Pontiacs but there was a Z28 for sale with 99k and a 6spd for $5000. If had the money I would have bought it. I spent too much buying parts to convert mine to a T56. Look for a deal and buy off that. The minor differences won't matter if your looking for a car to drive not hide in a garage.

Yeah that's a good point, I really just want to drive and as long as it has an ls1 and a 6-speed everything else is mostly secondary. I love the look of the ram air hood, but I wouldn't mind buying a non WS6 if it was a really good deal. Does anyone know if the monsoon stereo only comes in the WS6 or is it an option for the standard trans am too?

Monsoon CD is standard on Formula's and Trans Am's

If you like to drive and want the most out of your ride then you're likely to replace all the equipment that a WS6 would have over a base Car.
So why spend the extra money on parts that you will probably replace anyway ?

    Looks only.

If you find a cheaper one with a real WS6 hood for cheaper. Buy it.

Bragging rights Like having the "real deal" / build number / the story of it.

Just a few things other than performance. If you dont really car about any of that then go for the regular.

take into account the sleeper factor. for those not versed in firebirds they may think it is a v-6

i doubt the regular car driver, racer, or any other non firebird driver know the differences between models OTHER THAN THE HOOD! Are you able to tell the difference between a formula and a v-6 when it flies by in the opposite lane? And what is the only difference between the formula and the TA, the spoiler?

there's 2 different ways to look at this--- if you're looking for a sunday driver mostly stock "rare" sports car--- then a ws6 looks better and will hold it's value better. plus you get to say you have a ws6!

if you want a dailer driver or want a car to mod then the formula is a better choice because it's cheaper, and modding it wont affect it's value as much as modding a ws6

Value is the eye of the owner and on the subject of rarity, Any Formula will be more rare, because they made less Formula's per year `98-02 then Trans Am WS6's

Just get the best car you can for the money.

A WS6 is a dime a dozen. So I really don't think that they are going to be worth all that much over a "regular" TA or Formy anyway. GM didn't even indentify a WS6 in the VIN like they did with their "special" cars in years past. Yeah...the WS6 came with a hood and a couple of suspension upgrades but other than that....everything is the same. It's a factory bolt on car at best. I think it was more of a GM marketing sceme to mark the car up a few thousand more and it sure as hell worked. I see more WS6's than do sleak beak TA's and Formy's. I think the Formulas will be the ones that bring in more money in the way distant future. There just aren't many of them around. They are still ugly though. I'm gonna go hide now before the Formula boys set me on fire and watch me burn....

It's cool that everybody likes something different because if we all had the same thing life would be pretty boring.

    dont agree

base ta: want an ls1, plan to mod, plan to drive a lot

ws6: want an ls1, plan to keep stock or mostly stock, garage queen, hope to keep a long time

formulas: imo. . same as ws6, but rarer.

    and i love them all

unmolested ws6 cars are far from a dime a dozen. the ws6's will be worth more in the long run. they are the better optioned better looking car. and as for the ws6 package not even being in the VIN, well neither was the judge package over a regular gto in 69-71. and look how much more a judge is worth over a gto.

I dont really think there gonna be worth much eitherway. I see SS and WS6 cars going for under 10k with 60kmiles all the time. Now the guys who have 4,000miles or so are only asking 20-22k. So whats the point of not driving the car if its value is gonna go down anyway? There are atleast 5 ls1 cars i can find for 5-7k right now. In damn good condition.
