What a nightmare. I'm glad I know some good trustworthy bodymen, just in case I need them. If this were me, I'd be tempted to head down to the body shop, take my car back, and shop around for a different body shop.

Against my better judgement, I'm going to give them a shot at fixing it.
They said up front they could fix the cracked edge in my photo. It was later they said there were cracks around the hood mount and deemed it unsafe.
They spent all this time just trying to find an aftermarket hood.

Now that they have given up on the aftermarket hood and declared mine safe all they have to do is fix that cracked edge.
I'll be happy if they do a half decent job on it. It's still better than losing my OEM hood.
If I really don't like it I will continue to drive it until I can find a shop that can do SMC properly.

Frankly, I figured my hood was gone already and had basically accused them of stealing it from me and sticking me with a cheap knock off. At least I know I'm getting it back now.

There isn't much point in pulling my car out now. They've already had to tear the front end apart, put it back straight and replace the headlight assemblies. They are getting a load of money from my insurance anyway. I might as well let them take a shot at fixing that crack before they put the hood back on.

You'd be surprised how many GOOD body techs have no idea what SMC is...even though Corvettes panels have been made out of SMC for 10,000 years.
