Perhaps that will be me haha. Got to remember I'm coming from the 2nd generation where most things are kept pretty close to stock. Heck the stock 2000 WS6 I test drove would eat my 79 Ws6's lunch. Then again with 2nd gens you are always doing something to maintain them in good operating order, maybe all that effort will be placed into upgrades for my future 4th gen haha

If this is the case, and it prob will be, drop 1k into the suspension, tie rod ends, ball joints, shocks, struts, and anything else you can afford. It will be like new.

I already determined when I test drove it that I would invest some cash into the suspension

Since your 79 is stock getting the 4th gen you'll be hard not wanting to mod it. I will say most ppl drive it for a yr then after headers and other bolt-on' you'll get an itch for more

My 79 has long tube headers true dual exhaust and no cats, also has some other minor changes so it's not 100% stock. Thing is with the 4th gen I plan on it being a little bit more of a DD then my 79 is so I'm not sure how crazy I want to get with it.

So true. If you beef up the underside with LCA's, SFC's, PH Bar, Springs & Shocks, F&R Sway Bars, then you will have a totally different car. When I first got my WS6, the guys on this Forum kept telling me to build a solid foundation before you start adding more power. With those mods alone you feel as if the car has more power because it will handle so much better. Then I added cross drilled rotors and semi metallic pads. Only after doing all this did I start to fine tune the motor. I happen to have the A4 and it suits me fine here in Northern NJ. I had Frost do my PCM and he was able to tighten up the shifts, make them quicker and harder under acceleration, where it will chirp the tires in the first two gears. If you do get an A4 you should immediately drop the fluid, pull the pan and install new filter. If the pan is all full of crud at the bottom, make sure you clean it spotlessly whereas you don't get any loose particles floating up into the trans valves. I learned this the hard way. This Forum is full of very talented owners and they have steered me in the right and logical direction. Ask and you shall receive.

LT's, ORY, LS6 intake, and a good set of wheel/tire combo and you have a great DD.
