I am looking at another TA, it is a Black 2000 with 179k, fair condition, runs good, but has 179k and no records, they want 4k cash, and wont go much lower, is it worth taking a chance with that many miles? Thanks

Yes, That is a great deal!

I have 180k 6 speed and it drives better than when I bought it 6 years ago.

I personally wouldn't, I prefer to pay more for lower mileage myself.
However there are alot of high mileage success stories. If the car was well maintained you could also be one of those success stories. Sometimes you just don't know what you get until you've had it for a while. Could be a good way to get into an LS 4th gen very cheaply.

    Sadly now demodded :(

I bought my 98 Z28 with just over 160k on it 3 years ago. It's my DD. I paid $5k for it back then. It now has 181,xxx on it and runs great. Only thing I had to fix when I bought it was the radiator (had a very small leak) + I did a complete fluid change. Just recently the AC compressor took a dump. Everything was original so I replaced all the wear items. In that time I've driven the car from PHX to LA twice without a problem.

I had a 98 TA that had 175K miles on it when I sold it. At that point it was still pretty solid except for the clutch. Everything I've read and experienced personally suggests that these engines can go the distance. Not sure about the longevity of the rest of the car. I know the rear ends are weak, dunno if it's solid with that many miles...

I would for $3500 since it's a good place to start with a stock car. Drive in and get another block to build on in while you drive it around stock.

Imho would'nt touch it for more than a few hundred bucks..

Everything is worn out. 179,xxx= lucky mechanically..

@ most I might offer 1500 bucks for a drive train that could mechanically fail @ anytime due to heavily worn internals..

    Imho 179xxx miles = headache...

I bought mine for $3,500 with 173,000 miles. The mileage didnt bother me because I dont mind putting a engine or trans in this car. It would all be swapped for better, more powerful parts.

pretty much dont buy it cause its cheap. With that many miles you probly will end up putting money into it to keep it running. Personally for another grand or 2 you could get one with 50k miles less for sure.

i agree . i'm a fan of lower miles myself . unless it's THAT clean and you intend on swapping things anyway. but it could end up being a nightmare

Thanks for all the advice, I decided against it since the seats were all ripped up, outside was faded, dash cracked, and all the other minor things. No records on motor, and only another 20k and theres 200k on it....

    Thanks again guys!

Smart move. It's one thing to find a high mileage car that is cosmetically just as nice as any 50,000 mile car around. But when it's run into the ground, interior trashed, paint faded, you may as well look else where. That cosmetic stuff gets expensive in a hurry to fix, let alone the mechanical side of things.
