IT IS EATHIER THE SWITCH IN THE STEERING COLUMN OR THE LOCK CYLINDER. Because of the tilt steering wheel over time the switch can become loose, also at the end of the lock cylinder there are wires that have been known to break. Mine was doing the same thing.

ok I hear you. The dealer changed the ignition lock, same problem. Its at the dealer, they say that its starting fine but the problem is intermittent. Unless it fails to start while its there, they cannott tell what it is. They towed it from my house. When they let it down off the flat bed it started right up. I am going to let them keep it a few days and maybe it will fail to start with them and they can fix it. I bought an extended warranty that covers this sort of problem. Thanks for your help I will post until its fixed.

crazy....i have the same problem and have had this issue since i bought the car a year or two ago. The issue started 5 days after i took the car home and i brought it right back. Dealer told me nothing was wrong with it. I brought it to them 5 times and they still couldnt diagnose the issue. They pretty much told me i was SOL because the problem never happened when it was in the shop. I actually had them keep it for 3 weeks....still nothing. So i have been dealing with the issue. Sometimes it takes me 10 min just to start the car, other times it fires right up...

dealers suck...i pulled the lemon law business with them and the laughed at me. So i wrote a letter and told them i would never buy a car from them again and i would make sure everyone i know knows they blow...

    the saga continues...

    Question

I am going to pick it up on Monday (tomorrow) They cant duplicate the problem. I talked to the tech he seems to be trying to figure it out. But for him to say what the problem is the car has to not start. I am going to tell them to replace the ignition switch on the column. I picked up a clutch switch from a local parts place. Can anyone tell me exactly where the clutch switch is located ? I will install that myself. That being said the ignition lock has been done, the dealer will do the ignition switch and I will do the clutch switch. What else could it be?? I have seen starters behave like this. They will work until it gets to that bad spot then not crank. I have to get this resolved the track is in West Palm Beach I dont want to get way up there and have to get towed.

HAH ok so my cars doing the same thing now, ive had the problem a couple of times i can hear a click coming from the dash board area when i turn the key and depress the clutch.

It gave me trouble yesterday but finally started and then started again after i left the grocery store after the 1st try and then again when i stopped some where else and came home, today it wont start at all, i had someone try and jump me as well as switching batterys with someone. Nither of the two worked. Someones coming out to replace the starter later today. I THINK thats it. If it works out ill let you all know, i got a quote from two places one said 75 and one said 65 so im going with the 75 and he will come out to the house. If that doesnt fix it ill let you all know. I might just hang myself if it doesn't fix it as well.

Sidenote: The cars done it a few times before but only once and then it would crank the second time. Its done it a total of 4 times before now just completely not wanting to start. This def has me

At least yours clicks. Mine makes no sounds. The dealer has had it 4 days and cannot replicate the problem. I told them to replace the ignition switch, should be ready today. I will change everything before I give up. The only items left are the clutch switch (dealer says its ok) the starter relay and the starter itself. Ls1 starters are 150.00. What else can I do?? I really like the car. Good thing this is a second car.

Mine did the same thing this afternoon, left me stranded in the cold for 2 hours waiting on the pretty little wife to get off work. All day long, I had been going to the parts house buying tools, running errands, but it didn't do this until after I jacked up the rearend fixing my emergency brakes. It sat for about 4 hours, and when I tried again, it made about one revolution and then nothing. It can't be a fuse or relay, because the wife gave me a push and I dumped the clutch and she started and ran fine all the way home. When I got home, I shut it off and re-started it 3 times. If it were a fuse or relay, it would not have "fixed" itself. I'm cornfused!!!!

Got the car from the dealer. They changed the ignition switch because I requested them to. They were still saying they could not replicate the no start. I am going to test drive it for a week or so before I trust it. Got a buddy coming by tomorrow to install the clutch switch. When the dealer sent the courtesy van to pick me up, the guy driving it was 74 years old. He said he used to work on the Camaros and Corvettes. When I told him what it was doing he said GM did have some trouble with the ignition switches in the F bodies. Well I hope its fixed so I can get on to other things I want to do with the car. Will let u all know.

I have seen starters do this. Car wont make a sound, crawl under the car smack the starter with a hammer and the thing starts. The starter will have a bad spot on the armature( I think thats what its called) and the hammer strike will jolt it causing it to rotate slightly to another spot. The car then starts. ( I used to install batteries alternators and starters at Sears when I was a kid)

Relays are cheap and can be intermittent like that, I would definitely try one before a starter. Not to get too technical but you could rig up a little light to the exciter wire on the starter and when the problem occurs see if the light is lit or not. That would tell you a lot. Good luck.

    +1

I would just hate to see you blow 2 bills on a starter and it not be the problem.

Hey Retired Cop, I just stumbled across a thread entitled "How to bypass your VATS". Seems like they are having the same problems. If nothing else, more options to consider and another cheap fix!!

Well mines fixed, got it back today and 280 dollars later, which included having the sucker towed, 85 bucks. Its fixed. Itd been just under 200 if id gotten it to em instead of them having to come get it.
