Winter Storage
Well, I'm putting mine away for the winter next week. Anyone have any advice for storing theirs? I usually get mine out once a month and let it run, drive it down the road a little ways weather permitting (read: snow). Otherwise, I top off the tank before putting it away and disconnect negative terminal.

Pewter Metallic- 2002 Firebird Formula
I top off the tank but I never bother disconnecting anything... just running it once or twice a month for a little while, maybe 15-20 minutes, seems to keep it in good shape for the spring.

Black- 1999 Pontiac Trans Am WS6
ive been doin it for 4 years now, i usually, wash it, wax it, clean it 100%, then change the oil/filter. then i drive it onto a plastic/wood bed(to prevent moisture from coming up from the concrete. Put in my sta-bil(lil more than needed) and then just park her. I USED TO jack her up and put it onto jack stands, but ive read it is NOT beneficial to let the suspension hang, so this year she'll just be parked. And I USED TO start her once a month or so, but apparently just by starting it up(and not actually driving it) will not get the oil/system hot enough to burn off any moisture - so ill probably not start it from dec-apr or so. the street sweepers are a sight for sore eyes come april!!!

Curious, why are you storing the car in winter time when you live in Texas? You should be able to drive that car pretty much year round....
I live in Wyoming...cold, nasty winters with snow....but when the oppritunity presents itself with clear dry streets, I take the car for a spin. It's stored in a garage year round anyway, so I don't do anything different other than give it a good cleanup inside and out and a last wax job before the weather gets too crappy to do it....I drive it a couple times a month when the weather permits, and if the weather doesn't cooperate, I start it once a week and just let it idle up to operating temp....I also fill up the gas tank and add some fuel stabilizer to it in november/december, as I usually don't go through a whole tank of gas between december and march/april... Other than that I don't do much to it....oh...and I check the tire pressure on all tires before driving it on a "nice" winter day after sitting in the garage....

my bad....you are in IL..... ignore the first part.....stabil in the fuel tank...air up the tires, clean it real good inside and out, and a fresh coat of wax....check all your fluid levels. Drive it when you can, and periodic starts running it to idle are good....oh and if it is being stored in a garage or indoors (not outside) leave a window cracked for a bit of air circulation inside...

Thanks for the advice. I've stored it for two previous winters before I came on this site but figured it wouldn't hurt to ask. One question... Sta-bil... any auto parts store? BTW, pic in avatar is last week. Sucks that they are now talking snow this weekend.

IMO, either do all the above and let it sit all winter OR, if you do drive it, don't just go around the block or whatever. I'd recommend at least twice a month driving it long enough to get everything, engine, tranny, etc. up to full temperature and cleaned out of moisture, other wise it does more harm than good. Beleive it or not engine internals do start to develop rust/ corrosion in less time than you would think. When I was in college I had my father drive my car at least every other week for just this purpose. And oh yeah, I wish I could have my baby sitting in a garage all winter too

Yeah, we added the garage onto our house and one of its features had to be enough room for all of our cars. The garage is an "L" shape with a square two car part and then the T/A is backed into the smaller part of the "L". It works out pretty well. Now I just need heat...
