It's well worth the drive. You'll ever see so many Trans Ams in one location and spread out on the interstate about 6 miles long.

Yeah I was planning to pay for full registration anyway even though I can't go the entire route, so I'll be registered and hope to see you there.

I'll have to get to work on the T/A. Hopefully we can get 'em all done in time. I would love to go. But first, my list of work includes:

    Replacing engine in 2001 WS6
New engine in Nocturnal Blue '79
and the Pro-Touring black '79 probably wont be done in time. It's getting a new engine from SD Performance and full A-link coilover suspension and mini-tub kit from Detroit speed.

SO much work. SO little time...................

    Time to get crackin'!!!!!!!!!!!

I really wish I could but its not just the driving distance, we are building a new house and I have finals right around the same time. There is nothing I'd rather do than to hang out with a bunch of Pontiac/TA guys and drive the CETA (soon to be a pace car replica) for a couple of laps at Daytona.

Hope all goes well for everyone and you all have a great time. Looking forward to pics and video.

I've been thinking of adding pace car bits too, do you have a source for the various pace car decals?

Not sure. Depends on how many cars we get done, if any, lol. I know the black '79 that's being built into a Pro-touring style car will definitely not be done in time. The blue '79 will be done as far as getting a new engine in but I dont know if it will be ready for roadtripping by then. The WS6 is also unknown because we're still evaluating the engine as to whether it can be rebuilt or if it has to be replaced.

My dad picked up the '01 for 2k with a watter logged motor. The woman who had previously owned it tried to drive through a flooded road and killed it. So the entire interior had to be removed and cleaned and the engine has to be either rebuilt or replaced. I've been running into many set backs trying to get the engine out. Salt water rust makes removing things hell. My dad was going to turn it into a "show car" but my dd is on its last legs so I'm rebuilding the WS6 for my new dd. Then I'll rebuild my current dd and have some fun with the WS6.

I was curious as to where one could aquire cars like that. I would like to find one that had water damage cheap and mess with it and make it a dedicated drag car or something. I just don't have the garage space for it now.

Did the lady get water up and into the engine through the intake or exhaust?

Just search on Craigslist, lol. That's how we found this one. And the water came in through the intake. I took the intake off last week and found loads of salt and corrosion in it. I dont have high hopes for what we'll find when we get the engine out and dismantled.

Well, how the oil look? If the oil isn't all murky and white then chances are water didn't make it down past the pistons. If it is murky and white then your looking at a total tear down. Pull a head and see what it looks like.

Not sounding too got at this time, but on the bright side, since your pulling it apart you can bore it out and forge it.

Yea. I already drained the oil. It seemed a little murky. Not too much though. Luckily my dad has a friend who owns an engine building shop so he's going to evaluate the block and heads once we get all of it out of the car. If the block is still in good shape, then we'll just rebuild it. If it's not salvagable, then we're going to replace it with an LS6.
