    Wheel Rubbing Problem

So I put aftermarket Corvette ZR1 rims on the beast (285/40/17) I noticed that when i take a turn left or right and floor it and the car starts to slide that it makes a loud noise from the back end, almost like somethings grinding. So i took my tires off (back ones) and the tire seems to be rubbing in front of the axle next to the stopper. What i dont understand is that people put 315s on and have no problem and i wanted to put wider tires on but i dont like that noise. What can i do? Oh and by the way ive seen people put 295s and 305s on 285 sized rims? can i get away with it?

Most people with 315, iirc, have to bang the wheel wells to avoid using spacers.

Thats correct. Theres almost always fabrication involved in putting larger wheels on.

Theres definately a hammer in your future. 275 is typically the largest size the on a 9in rim for the front. I run that setup on the front and back so even my directional tires can be rotated back to front. I have friends who banged out the wells to run 305's on a 10 inch rear rim.

Well i really dont want to modify my car like that. I also dont want to take my spacers out because my car is lowered and has a stiff ride to it and if i take the spacers out i will bottom out my car. All i want to know is can i currently put 305s or 315 on my rim with no problems period?

It depends on the offset of the wheels. I run 18x11s in the rear with 315/30/18 and made no modifications. I have no issues and I am lowered.
