    What is it Worth? 1996 WS6 $4500

Looking at buying a black 96 WS6 to turn around and resell for a quick buck.

It's got 114k, ram air, A4, leather, ttops, and is in pretty good shape. KBB is $5500 for good condition.

Think I can turn it around and make a profit?

You bet. As long as it's clean and runs good. Don't know if it'll be a quick sell - depends on how much you ask. Why are they selling it so cheap? Not to say there is absolutely something wrong with it, (I bought my 99 with 50k miles for $7500 - but I was with the previous owner when he bought it the year before for $10k. He needed that much money quick - so I got a deal), but I would go over it or have a mechanic go over it carefully. Otherwise it sounds like a good deal.
It's not how fast you can go. It's how fast you can get there.

Well he seems pretty honest. He said it needs new brakes and tires. It has a minor dent on the pass 1/4 and a tear in the driver's seat. It also needs a header gasket...he said it's leaking.

I can sit on it for awhile no problem, but I want to make sure I can get my money back, plus some.

If that's all that's wrong with it I'd say it'd be a good deal and you could probably make some $ off it. Maybe put a little tlc into it and it'll net you a little more. Header gasket? He's done some mods to it then?

It looks like a few bolt ons. Headers, strut brace, tuned, shift kit. It's a really clean looking car, and I wouldn't mind it for a DD if it weren't for insurance and winter.

I'm starting to think it's not that great of a deal though...

Why not? WS6s are worth a decent price.

I don't know, I can probably make a little, but I don't think as much as I was hoping for. If it were $3500 he were asking, I'd probably go for it, but I'm not sure $4500 is the best deal. I'm waiting for some more opinions though.

There were only 2051 ws6s made in 1996 - kinda rare if you ask me. Plus the first year of the WS6 in fouth gen.

I would caution buying it for that much with the anticipation of making money.

A head gasket alone could cause you tons of grief if you plan on fixing it. Lots to take off and lots of old brittle vaccum lines. Not to mention old wiring etc... That could end up costing you some cash, then brakes and tires.

Like you said if you were getting it for $3,500 it would be a better idea.

There are tons of teenagers who would give their left hand for one though so if you put it up for sale at $5,500 it would probably sell pretty quick.

That is a tough decision... If you could stand breaking even or getting stuck with it for a while its probably not a horrible idea.

He said he's willing to negotiate, so I might be able to get him down to $4k, but who knows. Plus, with the weather getting nicer, there is a better chance of it selling...

Looks like he just needed header gaskets, not a head gasket. If it needs a head gasket I'd say no way in hell. But, if it's only header gaskets then that's not so bad. I've dealt with both on my 86 camaro

That's what I'm thinking. The LS1's are much more popular and worth a lot more. If I could an LS1 this clean for this price I'd be all over it no doubt.

I was just hoping it would be a rare car that some people might be interested in, but it doesn't seem like it.

That depends on where you live. I own one and I see them everyday. There have been a few of the WS6s around here for sale. I have never seen one in nice shape for less than $7,000. I looked at a 96 WS6 last year, it was at a dealer lot. They were asking $4,000 for it and it was in rough shape. There was another at another dealership for $7,900, it only sat there for about a month. I see it driving around town at least once a week. I just met a guy yesterday driving a 96 WS6 'vert. Here in central Missouri the LT1 Trans Ams are pretty common. If I had the extra money I would buy it. I want an LT1 WS6. I like the looks of the LT1 cars over the LS1 cars.

I wouldn't still trust him. Like others have said, have it checked out good. I bought a dd beginning of winter and the guy seemed "honest." He said nothing was wrong with it. Bought it and took it 1/2 mile down the street to put a full tank of gas in it. Drove away and the person following me called and told me it was leaking like a running faucet!

    Completely mis-read... Oops

Well he went out of his way to tell me what was wrong with it. I hadn't even asked yet. It would've been easy for him to wait until I go see the car and let me find out the tires and brakes are bad.

I'm still thinking about this one guys. It's an hour drive just to go look at it, and I'm still not sure I want to mess with it.

I wouldnt do it. lt1 cars go for cheap ws6 or not. There are a couple head/cam lt1 cars with 90-130kmiles going for 4-5k. These are legit low 12 second pass cars with time slips to prove it in good condition or better going for 4-5k.
