What in the world.
So I posted a topic the other day about my headlight gear grinding. Well anyway, I ordered a new plastic gear.. and JUST put it in a few hours ago. Worked fine. Drove to work in the dark, worked fine. No grinding. Worked perfect. Lights up the whole way home just now.. and when I get out of my car, I put my headlights down.. still good.
BUT WHEN I PRESS MY LOCK BUTTON ON MY KEYLESS ENTRY? THEY POP UP AND DOWN AND GRIND.

WHAT? Now whenever they go down they grind. Its ground zero all over again.
Brand new gear. Cleaned and greased up. gjbg

Pop up headlights are about the most useless invention EVER. The new Vette looks great without them. I had them on an 91 IROC Daytona. In 92 Dodge got rid of them. Good move IMO.

I don't have the money. Why would my brand new plastic gears already be stripped? I didnt put my headlights up when I was driving. It doesnt make sense.

In most any gear driven mechanism there are @ least 2 gears/ one big and one small. If they are grinding against eachother, just replacing one of the two may not fix the original problem. If the drive gear is damaged too then it will grind anyway even if one of the gears is a new one.

I disconnected the grinding headlight from the battery.. just so it wouldn't pop up and down when I used my keyless entry. But the left one still does???

just pull the fuse so you can still manually raise and lower the headlight at night

If your headlights are popping up when they aren't supposed to, most likely, it is the headlight control module. Mine went bad, and I had that problem. Try to find one used. New, they are about $250 from GM.
