I wish I knew exactly what the solution to the prob. is. But try some belt dressing. Its like belt "grease". Just go to autozone or advance auto and ask/ look for belt dressing.
Good luck

My life is a- Ben Stiller movie.
do a little more investigation, man. where's the sound coming from? Front of engine? Rear of it? in the drivetrain?
Most likely it's an a/c pulley, either tensioner and/or idler pulley. Just take the a/c belt off, and start the car. If you're bird's still chirpin, look/listen to the main belt

I would check the belt tension. Does it do it when you first start the car? Only when the a/c is on? What did your neighbor do to fix it?
Normally, if it has something to do with the belts it will make a screeching sound, but I have never heard a grinding sound. At least out of my experience with car problems, which isn't much.

yea a/c pully is my guess. You know those cost like 50 dollars and you can only get them from the dealer? atleast thats the only place i could find them... rediculous.

Air pump check valves are another possibility. Our 2000 SS does it and its embarassing as hell.
