Yeah depends what you're looking for. I did mainly appearance mods first, but here's what I did. Maybe you can find something...I know some of the performance stuff is obviously more than $300 but that's what saving is for right

Brass headlight gears
Decals

well i was thinking about buying a set of Patriot Gold valve springs, right now while i have the money and then buying the cam a little later. but maybe a pair of subframe connectors (not sure to get the weld in or bolt on type) would be good to get now. dont really go to the track at all, its just a DD.

It's a DD and you're getting a cam? You should probably get a stall before the cam but then again it's a DD right?

i think i might buy a pair of set of pacesetters and wait and save up a little more to put them on and get em tuned at the same time

Dont even think about a cam right now if all oyu have to spend is 300 bucks. Buy it as a package deal. Buying a set of valve springs and looking at them for months will not be money well spent. Buy the cam all at once (package deal), and thats going to run you over a grand plus tune. SFC are always a plus. These cars need them, badly. Forget about the bolt on, buy some weld in(your choice of brand really) 2 or 3 point. That will be money well spent.
Headers is a great mod, but does not require tuning really. You will need o2 extensions. But SFC, Headers, and a Stall should be your first 3 mods IMO.

The bitch is you can get a stall for around 300, or headers for 300 but you have to facter in labor and or tuning. Gears would be great to but labor is a bitch.

Get Sub frame connectors or lowering springs....or like you said save up and get pacesetters....It all depends on what your priority is, speed, handling, or appearance.
