    "Welding" smell when driving

I just picked up a 1999 Trans Am, auto, 90K miles. Twice so far I've had a metal burning or a "welding" smell while driving, once at 70 mph, and another at 20 mph. It lasts a few seconds then disappears. After I pull over and pop the hood and crawl under the car, I can't smell it at all. Anyone have anything like this?

when i got my exhaust done, it smelled for a while, mostly because of the new muffler, and when they painted the welds, not sure if this is your case

id agree, i had a little smell when i got my new muffler.... i dont have near as many miles as you....

it also happened when power steering fluid leaked onto my exhaust... or clutch slipped at one point...

check and make sure u dont have any fluid leaks, sometimes some of them can smell like that

    hope that helps

I did add some power steering fluid yesterday, I'll have to look and make sure it's not leaking. Thanks.
