    Upgrade Engine, Upgrade Transmission

If I still own my Trans Am when the engine goes, I'd like to replace it with a LS3 or higher. Would that/should that go with something better than the stock transmission? If it's a stupid question, the reason is a lack of car knowledge.

Which transmission are you referring to? A4 or M6?

If you want to keep the 4l60e, here is a thread with what to upgrade on it. http://www.ls1.com/forums/showthread.php?t=127538

Thanks. So other than the transmission cooler (not sure if that technically is part of the tranny), would I need to upgrade parts of the transmission, or would it work fine as is?

Are you doing it yourself or would you have it built by someone else? If taking it somewhere, most upgrades would include all of the above and then some.

I think it's clear I shouldn't be working on a car I was thinking of buying a transmission, though. With all the changes to be made, I should wait for the engine, if the tranny doesn't first go bad.

You could always just throw a cooler on there and see what happens.

I would suggest putting this in the Drivetrain-Transmission-Automatic section.

You will get a lot more, better, responses than mine.

I would look into building a tranny.
The stock automatic isn't that stout to begin with. Going to want to beef it up so it doesn't become a problem down the road.
