Depends on the gear ratio, and weather it's a a4 or m6, and years of each car. If they are identically setup, top speed would be even.

Everybody knows that the superior aerodynamics of the WS6 gives it a higher top speed. Especially considering the Ram Air!

    J/K, they should be even.

With the "somewhat" more effective hood the WS6 has, at the higher speeds, it "should" have the advantage. But I do have a preference for who wins LOL....

gearing is a factor of course but as far as being governed to shut off at a max speed it is ultimately dependent on what tires it rolled off the assembly line wearing.

    Sadly now demodded :(

    Is this a serious question?

Given (no mods with identical options) that an auto SS is the same as an auto WS.6 and that an M6 SS is the same as an M6 WS.6 (regarding the drivetrain) then top end will be the same. Camaro might be a tad quicker getting there (were talking tenths of a second) owing to a bit less curb weight.

All things being equal it's then up to the driver...

^^^OP said WS6 vs. SS. These cars both had summer, max performance tires installed at the factory, so the governor was set to the same, 165 or unlimited, I believe. AFAIK, only Trans Ams/Formulas/possibly some Zs had a lower limiter, if they were factory equipped with "H" speed rated tires.

I think all WS6/SS cars had OE tires with a ''ZR'' rating, which is "in excess of 149 MPH."

Whoops took too long. I meant this reply for Justin.

And the driver with the bigger cajones wins!

Yeah but we all know the WS6 has the better CAI for speeds like this.

Just laughing over here. I don't have big enough ones to go that fast on public roads, and anyway, mine are all shrunk inside me right now with the predicted -2 degrees overnight!

I'm clueless when it comes to tires we had from the factory, because good luck finding an f-body that either hasn't had a tire change or has and has gotten the exact same ones installed for all these years.. thanks for the additional info

Why wouldnt they be the same?

WS6 has probably a better induction system but the SS has fixed headlights. Those would be lighter and probably flow air better around them due to less pull on the headlights (air stream). Then the wing on the SS is smaller so most likely would create less drag.

Either way they probably are on par with one another.

Untill you get busy with the programmer...

My 02 was a 2.73 geared Z when I bought it. Fastest I ever had it was 145 when a "what if I blew a tire" scenario popped into my mind. It was only taching 4500rpm. These days I rarely get it over 100 unless I'm at the track...

What RPM was that at? I am willing to bet around 5,200 or so? I bet you would pick up a few MPH but not much. Power to weight ratio is better but not that much better. You are moving a wall of air at that speed and being down in terms of revs compared to like a high winding engine such as a Lambo you wont gain as much as you think.

I am betting 175 though. Video for us if you would? Always LOVE to see someone go fast!

Something to remember is that minor weight loss barely affects top speed, but does show up in quicker acceleration to that speed.

Top speed is all about drag Vs. HP.

Ha, man you made me laugh.

I was thinking to myself because I am down about 8 lbs in the past month (want to lose a little more) that if I could get down to that 190 mark that I would take a minimum of 25 lbs off the car. Not a huge gain but anything helps. hahah

Reason for diet: to run faster at the track.
