Tinting rear window..
Would putting vinyl on the inside of the top of the hatch help prevent tint from bubbling? I can't tell how my last hatch was tinted since it came tinted, however, it looks like there is a solid black vinyl strip along the inside and then tint over it. But has anyone else heard of this when preventing bubbles in the tint?

Wow... anyways.
As for vinyl, on the top I have seen many do that. The stock rear hatch has black dots on the top of the glass (have no clue what they are called), but they are a sob to tint as air can get stuck up there since u can't squeegee that section.
Several people I know went with vinyl to black out that top piece since its not visible in the rear view anyways.
When I had mine tinted I had to take the car back three times for him to work on that tiny top section as bubbles showed very easy from the rear perspective
If Mr Luos chimes in, I seem to recall he did this as well.Last edited by chuckie669; 05-20-2011 at 05:23 AM.

Had mine tinted Wednesday and the first thing the guy suggested was putting a strip of vinyl there. The last person to tint it didnt and it never looked right. Looks 10xs better now with the vinyl there.

It may sound weird but I have also heard of guys using clear Elmer's glue on that section to prevent bubbling. Your tint guy would just apply the glue to the glass, reapply the film and and squeegee out the excess. The method may seem out there but the results are good.

Thanks guys and I still believe 5% tint is illegal on the hatch, look up tint laws for your state.
