Engine warm runs approx 210. Performance chip ia now off it was a IAT sensor tricker. The engine has 8,000 miles and short block has 4,000.

The ppl who rebuilt the engine claimed to tune the engine properly when the did the 2nd rebuild.

I beleive the owner before me put a highflow cat on it. It sounds loud for a stock exhaust so I figured he put a highflow.

There is a small hole where the cat was welded porly, its located after the cat on the weld.

    Heat shield drain..

Sounds like a Walker-"dirrect fit".. if the cat inlet and outlet pipes are less than 3" (which is what the factory one is )

then it's not going to be a high flow..

I don't believe the PCM was tuned for the engine either..just sayin..

ANY reputable tuner would have steered them clear of "chips"..

Not sure if you caught this OP, but this would be indicative of your car running rich; PCM dumping more fuel into the mix than it needs.

    Yes..

I also think the TB servo is'nt opening the venturi enough at the right rate for the new displacement needs,

which could make it "seem" rich when actually it's starving for a more specific set of AFR's.

This is why I think a professional tuner needsto be involved here.

I put the chip on. They didnt, they claimed to tune it but I see where this is heading. Profession dyno tune.

And no I havnt noticed any "soot" from exhaust tips.

Take a look at a few of the spark plugs to know if she's running rich or not.

What kind of distance are you driving daily? When my wife drives ours (98 5.7 A4) she usually doesn't have to go more than a mile or two to get anywhere she is going and averages about 13-14. When I drive it to work and back 50 mile round trip it averages 17-20. The short distance kills it.

Not really the short distances...but the city driving is what wastes fuel.

I goto school from home which is less than a mile. Then I go home then to work which is about 3miles. So daily I drive 8-10 miles.

spark plugs won't tell that the way they are made these days... checking the exhaust for black soot is one easy way... the best way is to check the /af ratio via the pcm...

I'm will to bet that the shop told you they did a tune, but in reality they are using the stock tune and just billing you for it.

Before you run out and get the tune you should check all that have been suggested first = less money you have to spend and you can tell the tuner all that you have checked so he doesn't waste his time & your money.

Could a bad torque arm bushing cause this bad mpg?? I have a wierd noise from the drivetrain thats coming from the center console. Cross bar or torque arm maybe. Like a grind noise and you can feel it.

NO.. Torque arm keeps the rear axle from rotating backwards when you accelerate.

It's possible that the bolt to that holds the clam shell together that clamps the torque arm to the tranny is loose. ( I know this because I had the bolt back out and had the torque arm hitting the floor board, scared the hell out of me.)

Or your bushing that the tranny sits on is shot.

When you say grinding noise; is it on take offs, when shifting or as you cruise down the road and you hit a bump?

If take offs and while cruising - tranny cross member bushing

If while shifting - internals of the transmission.

On take offs only. How much is this item? Hard replacment?

Not what really concerns me at moment. Looking for bad mpg right now. Im pulling near a dyno tune. Got a guy who does a professional dyno tune for $350. Could fix the bad mpg problem. Today I drove without the performance chip. (considering trashing the damm thing)
