Question Technical Articles -- Any Requests?

It is that awful time of year when us members in the rustbelt sit and stare out the window at the snow and ice... wishing for the warmer months to come so we can blow the dust off our cars and enjoy them once again. It is also a great time to install new parts, perform needed maintenance, and upgrade our cars so they perform better.

We have a variety of stickies on installs and mods across the forum, but not all ground has been covered. Are there any specific write ups you guys (and gals) want to see? Installs? Upgrades? Maintenance? Repairs? Does anyone have a topic they want to post a thread on? If so, don't forget to take lots of pics.

    Let's hear some suggestions!

The horrible hydraulic issues with the m6!! Seems like their is alot of people that pops up with these same problems, plus the issues with horrible rattling which would be cause from bad mounts!!

Cutlass has something posted in the Manual Transmission section seeking the same I believe. Good input.

I saw Cutlass' post about stickies...

I'd like to see a sticky on what general maintenance should be performed on our cars Jeff. Example: mileage/time period on the following:

    - Cooling system
    - Fuel filter
    - Gear oil change in the rear end
    - Brake fluid
    - Hydraulic clutch fluid
    - Transmission fluid change

    Etc.

When I get around to my shift/launch light install I'll try to right one up. I saw one out there before but it wasn't too detailed. Plus it wasn't the launch light one, so there's more to it. I still have to figure out which wire is the speed wire.

Also, I gots an idea for us track guys and the fans to cool the motor down in between runs. So I also may have some complicated wiring to write up with my ashtry switching. It's been a pain finding the proper components to keep things really clean looking.

That's a good idea. You going to tackle it for us?

Have not seen the shift light thread you are referring to. An update would be great. I like the fan idea too -- sitting in the staging lanes and heat soaking the engine just before a run bothers me.

Even though I know most of those now, they would have been nice to have when I first tried them.

    I like those ideas.

A whole maintenance sticky section for everything. All the way to paint maintenance.

I have some time. I will put something together and post it up

I'll do some digging and make sure I have the right info (or at least close) and then we can make adjustments based on people's feedback.

If you need any assistance or want the draft reviewed before posting, let me know as I would be glad to assist. Let's be sure to address the "factory recommendations" versus "real world what should be done".

It was a different site I saw it on, can't even remember the name of it. Plus I plan on swithing it, so it isn't bothersome while street driving.

I'm looking for some cheap and adjustable on-delay timers for the SLP fan switching adapter harnesses. The idea is to flip your switch and it will run the fans for a selected amount of time so you can walk away from your car and wont kill your battery. I got the wiring down, just need to find the all components (need to work right/fit right/look right/price needs to be right).

Since it sounds like you are custom fabbing stuff -- I have a book somewhere that I purchased from Radio Shack years ago on building circuits. I used it to build a time delay into my car alarm on a '90 Eagle Talon. Do not recall the specifics as to why I had to do this, but it worked like a charm. If you need some info, let me know and I'll try to dig it out.

Do you plan on upgrading to an aftermarket pump, or stock replacement?

I'm thinking while I have the car torn apart I'll send my stock pump to Turn One to get it revamped. as for the R&P, I'm stayling stock AC Delco. I'm also thinking about buying a BMR tubular k frame, just cause.
