If he really does have 300 rwhp, it should be a good race, it might just come down to the driver. I believe the stock M6's dyno around 280-290 rwhp.
And remember the Fox body cars are a bit lighter.

I am kind of sad to say, but I think the that particular mustang might have the upper hand.

Some ls1 cars have been dynoed at 330+ off the showroom floor. Some are lower than 280. As an m6, I would estimate your car having around 315-320 hp just based on some things I have seen. If you have a WS6, drill the rivets out of the baffles on your hood and pull them out, that should gain you some hp and hopefully enough for an advantage.

I wouldn't waste time drilling on your car, if he really has 300rwhp your goose is cooked. My loaded out 88 GT weighs 3520# with me AND almost a full tank of gas in it. I have pulled 05 GT's, hung dead even with a lightning, and gave an auto Z28 w/passenger a close call. His momentum allowed him a 2 car lead on me but it was all but deadlocked. I also managed to pull a 99-02 Cobra by 1 car 70-115.
I dynoed 244rwhp.
FYI, my WS6 weighed 3540 without me in it and about the same amount of gas. It is a 6-speed. I pulled my GT with my dad driving it by about 3.5 cars 50-100mph (I did start in 3rd though), that was before I tuned on the GT a little and put in the 7,000rpm limiter chip. Now I would say I would get it by maybe 2.5-3 cars 50-100 also starting in 3rd. It comes on strong in the top-end.

Dyno #'s don't mean squat Race Him and see what happens
There are too many variables to determine a clear winner. If he's making all that power in a lighter car without traction it could be a toss up
My personal experience with a couple blown 5.0's was that if they didn't have traction they weren't going anywhere.
Have Fun but be safe.Craig

Alright, I guess I am somewhat confused. You said you pulled your Dad, driving the Mustang, by 3.5 cars or so? You were in 3rd gear? That means if you were in 2nd, which you should have been, you would have smashed him worse than you already did!
If so, I believe 9T8 can win this race, if he is a competent driver. My car without headers ran 13.25-13.6 @ 104.7-107.3, with only a lid. It is about .35 faster and 2 MPH faster now, tho.

A 300whp mustang is gonna run a lot better than 13.2@104. My friend ran a 12.20@109 with 320whp. If he has to run this guy, a roll race is the best option.
My GT traps 99mph with only 244whp and crappy street tires pulling a 2.4 60' spinning all the way through 2nd gear. (turned in the 14's with that much tirespin).
Point is, he has the same hp as a stock LS1 and he weighs 2-300# less and has a better rear suspension and I am sure it's been modded given that he has 300whp worth of mods under the hood. If he has DR's or something it would be worse.

ok i raced him . sad to say but I lost. Now im not the best driver so that was probably an issue. i drove stick for less then a year so.............. well he beat me off the line and by the time I hit 60 he was mabie a little less then a car lenght away. I stopped at 80mph but the faster the speed the closer I was to him so on the highway or if my skills improve i think he would loose. not to mention my car is pretty much stock compared to his

If that mustang has 300rwhp, and its a fox...Id say hed walk you by a little bit. If your stock atleast. Considering most foxes weigh a few 100lbs less than our cars, and hes making around the same power.

Stock? I didn't think there were any stock LS1s? Do the free mods and a lid. If you're a WS6 owner seal the hood, if not, do the FRA or pick up a FTRA setup. Quick, easy, and will definitely pick you up a couple tenths. A cam would bring you more power, but you would need a tune to get the most out of it. How much did you lose by? My 02 WS6 ran 13.05@112 with a SLP lid, home P&P TB, Eagle F1 285/40 GS-D3s, and a TB bypass. I haven't got a run in since the mods, but would expect mid to low 12s now with the sealed hood, tune, 3500 stall, Bassani true duals and Pacesetter LTs...

I wouldnt do a cam til you have opened that engine up. In other words, LT headers, exhaust, intake lid, LS6 intake, heads etc etc. Also these mods are cheaper and easier to do. Put your $355 into a used lid and used catback. You should be able to get a lid around $50 to $100 and a catback around $100 to $200 depending on what you want. A cam wont do you any good without these anyway. You will be wasting your money.
Oh and I found the cheapest price around town for a competent shop to do the cam was $650, but then you need stronger valve springs, $300 more in labor plus the parts. Then you will NEED a tune, another $400 to $500. A cam is not a good idea for you. Catback and lid you can do in your driveway with a jack and basic hand tools and will likely yeild the extra umph you need to pull on the Mudstang.Last edited by mnypitZ; 09-28-2007 at 06:46 AM.
