Should I buy it
I am only 16 and have fallen in love with the firebird. I need the opinion of some people, I recently found a 1996 firebird base looks beautifull the interior is kinda messed up but it has a whapping 189000 miles on it, I only need it to last 2 years for me, its price at the moment is 2900 does anyone think that buying it is a good idea. My budget is only 3000 so I have the feeling that im not going to get much better, tell me what you think, Thanks

I say hold out and if you have to save a little more. LS1's are quicker out of the box. You won't be sorry. At that mileage you'd end up rebuilding the motor soon anyways. The interior would cost you bank and then you'd have a old car.
Try to save a little more and be patient. It we be well worth it.

Well honestly I have yet to find another firebird that I can afford, I live in a knowhere town Tyler,TX and I have been looking for 6 months or so. What do you think a price on that car is that I described that would make it worth buying in case I can talk him down?

I'm not sure, but I know personally I wouldn't pay more than $1500 for it. It's too bad you don't live closer to me, I could get you a 89 irocz for about $2000

And I wanted a V6 anyway because I cant afford lots of gas and I dont need high inshurance. So I figured the base would be my best bet

It sounds to me like you should buy a beater 4 cylinder, since you only need it for two years. Save up for a few years and then buy a bird if you still want one. A $2500 Civic will be more reliable and cheaper on gas than a v6 firebird.
Just my two cents.

The irocz is my brothers, he's trying to sell it. I think it has like 115k miles, but it still runs great. 350 pre-LT1 I think, automatic.

Well, I just checked the mileage on it and I'm not too sure what to think...
It says 00603.3 so I'm assuming that means it has 100,603 miles, or it's just broken... Either way it's wierd that it only has 5 whole digits.

Well it's a 350 V8, pre-LT1 as far as I know. I'm assuming it has around 280 HP, someone else might chime in if they know.

depending on the firebird / trans am different. I have a old 'firebird' (aftermarket 350 they didn't know about) and it cost like 300 a year with no coverage to the car itself, and my T/A has full coverage and it costs a grand every 6 months. I think insurance is a rip, you're paying for something you might do. ever since someone backed into my T/A while it was parked though I've had it full covered.
