seems to be about an inch, i can stick it back up but it just slides down again, every now and then i see a pic of a T/A with the gap completely closed and it looks way cleaner than mine

My only recommendation is to get a shorter shifter rod.
Trust me.
I stuck a strap clamp under the boot on the rod to hold it up and it worked fine, but whenever shifting to 1-3-6 it would pop the boot off at the base. So I said screw it and took it off.

I'd recommend just getting a short throw and perhaps sticking a mild adhesive on the top of the boot when you're reassembling everything if you think it'll sag.

get short shift stick my t/a also has a stock husrt shifter and i dint like how tall it was nor the rubber bushing that helps bend ur 3/4 shift fork. or u can get a diffrent ball that drops it down some.

I like the height of mine, but not how sloppy it was with the rubber bushing. So I welded it all together. Filled in the gab between the rod and the retaining washer and then built it up from there for strength. Smoothed it out and painted it and it is a lot firmer than before. Great "somewhat" free mod in my opinion.
