Rearend Sound

    Rearend Sound

    ok sooo my rearend on my trans am makes this clunking sound when im turning in and out of parking spots and stuff. its a 98 with 170,500 miles on it. is my rearend going out??!!

    does it sound like a grinding or whistling noise if it only does it when your going real slow parking spots etc maybe check the rear brakes or just pop the cover off the diff. that will tell you 100% if it is going or not look at your side gears and stuff

    remember when doing this be sure to change the gasket and fluid dont just add gear oil

    uhh idk it sounds like a knocking sound kind of like its binding together when i turn out of spots is when i can really hear it!!

    Might be the rear of the drive shaft, i had this problem. it was a loose u joint, made a clunk sound when going ''real slow'' and Taking it out of park into R or D, made a clunk.

    Sounds like the "can of marbles" noise. Completely normal, don't worry about it.

    Change your fluid and dump in some GM limited slip additive. I bet money your clutches are sticking in the differential.

    If it isnt that then you might need some heavy wrench time
