Air bag deployment does not always consitute a "total". The reason alot of cars are totaled out after an air bag deployment is due to the fact that there is usually a good bit of body damage and air bag system replacement is expensive. From what i have seen the cost to replace both front air bags and replace the sensors can range from $3000-4000 easy! then you add the rest of the body damage...your talking about a good pice of change...

Damn just now so you posted the pics in your first post......thats pretty brutal.

On a side note, is it legal to NOT have air bags...??? I mean I could understand if you were to sell the car to someone else, but if its my vehicle could I?

How do you find out if its legal?? I mean I know custom shops remove that for electronics like tvs and whatever so it must be legal right??? How do you know

as a private seller, you dont have to have airbags to sell a vehicle, but as a dealership or used dealership, by law if the car comes with an airbag, it has to be sold with an airbag...becarful of buying used cars in accidents, ive herd of many stories of fake airbag replacements from previous accidents and such.

How do you disable the airbags? I dont want mine going off over a little fender bender like he had. That car wouldnt have been that bad to fix until the airbags went off.

ya I know its crazy but I ended up finding a Trans am with a new LS1 engine in it with 18k miles on it for 6,500. Gonna see if I can talk him down to like 5,500 cuz I still need to get it repainted black and get a WS6 hood again.

ya, he has a GTO 06/07 all hooked up and the Trans am was gonna be his Nos car, but his wife is having a baby so he needs to sell it. (He bought it with the new engine installed) so he didnt pay to get it put in or anything. Ive seen the papers sayin why the engine was replaced and everything, its in my other thread about Trans am for 6,500

    This guy is right.

I had a similar thing happen to me a few years ago. The windshield gets taken out by the passager side airbag which also springs the shit out of the dash meaning I needed a new dash too which added another $1700 to the price. So you can see where they are real quick to total these cars.

Wow, I'm suprised your airbags deployed, since the body doesn't look that bad. When I got in my accident a couple weeks ago, I hit a van and a guardrail with the front at about 50-60 mph and mine did not deploy, and mine looked alot worse than yours. The insurance agent said my car would have been totalled out if the air bags had deployed. As it was, the bill came to $7k.

i`m thinking of buying a 00 t/a that has been totaled the air bags popped out looks like it either broke an a arm or bent the subframe but could that not be replaced because of it being a uni-body
