Even with a safe tune and mild boost they made close to 450 rwhp and ran mid 11's. It was very popular to do 10 years ago when these cars were fairly new.
Darn things drove like bone stock, and got stock like mileage too. That's what makes it attractive to most people.

What I liked was the fact that they got the expensive add on out of the way, and drove the car daily waiting until they had the cash to build a motor capable of more boost, and really turn up the power.
The problem was the cars as far as I remember ran for a few years like that without issues and never needed to build a motor
Yes and then you get the guys who blow there engine in a couple weeks. It even makes me more affraid now with all the bull shit they are putting in gas. You get some bad gas and you can really do some damage with FI setups.

There is a pretty extensive thread about FI and stock bottom ends on LS1's over on tech. It lists how many miles that have, what boost level and which set-up (turbo or s/c).

I don't remember seeing any that blew up that maintained 8lbs of boost or lower.

The blocks that blew, pistons that broke, etc. were all on cars that had stock bottom ends that increased the boost to 12+ lbs.

As you would probably agree, tuning is everything with FI.

Yes it is but tuning can't compensate for bad gas. Personally if i were to do it, the FI kit would be last, i spend that first 6k on my engine and a get a nice low comp stroker which would still probably make 400-430whp even with low comp.

I didn't read your whole post as I was on my BB. I agree with the whole bad gas part.

I've been contemplating this very thing myself. Whether to build the engine or just throw the Procharger on and run 8lbs until she breaks. What I know for sure is that 8lbs of boost will probably be fun for a year or two and then I'll want more. Everyone seems to.

Personally, I just can't see myself throwing 3K or more into a stock LS1 motor. I'm thinking just get the S/C, run it like no tomorrow and then when something blows, upgrade to something like a 408 and build that for more boost.

A 376 or 383 isnt too far off of a 402 or 408. And you can usually get them to rev a little higher. But yea i would wanna start with a ls2 and make it a 402 or 408. I really dont wanna ditch the alum block design even with boost. I would only want 700-800whp anyway which the ls2 block should handle.

Don't make the LS2 a 408....that is taking too much off that block.

I am not personally a fan of the 383 LS1....
Honestly, a stock cubed LS2 with boost is a badass build. 364 cubes. Don't have to purchase a stroker crank that way.

    Back on topic...kinda
Getting mine ready for this weekend. Polishing the ProStars today and polishing a turd Wednesday.

i run a 2$ autozone filter in my car and not only does it out perform all fbodies of the same class as mine but you should see how clean the top and bottom end of my motor is ...its squeeky clean.
    ..no cleaning required lol

mainly because of how many people will be there, plus I have no need to put that risk of breaking something when I already got a decent time slip. Well see when the day comes. Very excite!

What time you wanna meet up

Not too worried about it at this point. Nothing I can do, and I plan on a full re-paint in a few years.

I spent a ton of time on it today though. Probably halfway done with the full detail.
    6 hours in....
    Wheels are polished (ProStars).
    Washed
    Clayed
    Washed
About halfway done with the correction.

Still have half of the correction, polish, glaze, and wax to apply.

Lol I know what you mean. I would love to do mine but my buffer is being gay. Probably because it's harbor freights but it keeps being rough. I'm kinda suprised youre not gonna sport the torque thrusts.

    ProStars have Hoosier's.

Maybe I should have clearified. We were doing this stuff back when these cars were new, so the cars were mechanically sound and low miles. We never had problems with people blowing engines up. Gas was also better quality back then, hell even 2 years ago gas was better.

These cars are 10 years old or more now, I wouldn't even think about putting a blower on a 100,000 mile engine.

Yea gas sucks now even more so in winter. I had to have my legacy retuned because of the additives they were putting in the gas around here in winter.

And like I said, the TTII's are in worse shape right now than the ProStars, so....win/win.
Car looks meaner on the 'Stars anyways.

    Glaze done. Wax tomorrow.
