Question for you all
I am the proud new owner of a 2002 T/A. Bought it with 88K miles and still feeling it out as my last car was a V6 camaro. (yeah I know...lol...now to the point)
I ran into a WS6 owner who said the Ls1's are only rated to 100K. Not sure of his source however he did seem to be pretty knowledgeable of the car. All I had to due since I've had it was replace the window motor. It does seem to go on the right side of the thermostat when sitting in traffic but the fans do come on and center it again.
Based on you alls experience with these cars and their engines is there anything I need to be worried about other that the norms?

I bought my 99 TA 2 years ago with low 90k on the odometer and I now have 127k. The only things I have had to replace is the AC belt, the passenger window motor went recently(haven't replaced it yet, but will soon) the headlight motors had just been done when I bought the car, the power antenna just started to make a noise and not go up and down anymore, and finally the rear tires. I think for a car with 127k on it that is not bad. Otherwise I just to the routine maintenance on it.

ls1s have gone as far as 300k miles. With good up keep 200k miles should be doable and there are many many ls1 cars with 100,000+ these days.

I had a 98 TA that I bought in 99. I drove it until 06. It had 175k miles on it when I sold it. I had no major issues with it until the end, when the clutch fell apart. From what I could tell, the engine and transmission coulda gone longer.
The only minor issues I had through those years were with the headlight motors and the power windows.
So I certainly think you can take it well beyond 100k miles, assuming the previous owner gave it the proper routine maintenance, and you do the same...

the ls1 itself will be fine well after the 100k mile mark. its the rear/clutch/headlightmotors etc. that will need replacing.

100k on cars is nothing nowadays. Now, over 200k, that's when you might think about rebuilding/freshing the LS1. Even then, if the engine was taken care of, wear won't be much.

yep, i've always heard the LS1's are very durable engines. and like everyone else on here is saying, just take care of it

Check every now and thenn for a coolant leak you will have to replace the water pump but that can be done easy from someone who knows a little something about cars. if it's a auto you may run into some issues at high mileage if you like to hve a lot of fun (sunshell, forward sprag) but you can pick up a junk yard trans with a warrenty cheap. Just makesure it Didnt come out of a big truck or anything. (shift patterns and firmess may be different and seem like a problem. Window motors. Headlight motors. Door panels. Oil pressure sending unit.(it will be pegged at maximum PSI) Front turn signal lenses. Drooping doors. (sub-frame connectors wil add a lot more life to your car) I could still b missing stuff but I think those are all te problems they have most commonly I have 90k on mine and 20k of that is a HARD 20k ad still runnin like a beast.

Navy Blue Metallic- 98 T/A w/ mods, 00 FBVert
Mine's a 98 and I have 125k on it now. No major issues, dash cracked again, and passenger headlight flutters when up on drives. It's been modded, but nothing radical yet. I hope it last a while, I've only had it for a yr. But I'm also planning to upgrade to an LS6 within the yr or so.
98/99 LS1 also have this oil pump problem but an LS6 oil pump fixes it.

146K miles or so on my SS that I sold and the new owner from what I have heard is hitting low 12s with gears, drag radials and full exhaust (oh yeah, new clutch) ... STOCK block never been 'tweaked"..
My 99' Chicken Hawk has 112K and purrs like new...
Just keep up with maintenance and don't be silly... ANY car will "break" if abused... beyond reason of course.1999 Firehawk Trans Am #530

It all depends on how you take care of your car, service and all that
but chevy makes great cars and I trust on those cars I have had many gm cars before and never have mayor problms with them
my ls1 z28 had 117k miles n still had the power n never had problms
I highly recomend ls1 on top of lt1
never had one bt for some reason I like better the ls1 motor

Thanks everyone I think I need to get the fan thing looked at (today or tomorrow) because the fans don't seem to turn on until I am a quarter from the red zone. Appreciate all the information.
LOL @Baluchitherium (Chicken Hawk comment)
If any of you are going to the Fbody Gathering here in Atlanta sound off, look forward to meeting you guys. More so now since I don't have to feel like the underage kid at the bar anymore

The 1st thing I would do with that is what I do with everything I buy. Change all fluids like oil, rear diff., tranny, radiator. Someone chime in if I missed any. Probably best to install a new thermostat and maybe some plugs. What I do on everycar since I never trust dealers or previous owners unless it's someone I'm friend with and know when it was last done. The LS1 motors are great and will last you along time if maintained properly. I know alot of people with bolt on cars that go to the track with 150k plus miles on there car and a few that run between a 75 and 100 shot that still run great. I have friends that use theirs as dd's and some like me who keep them garaged till a cruise or meet since I have a Trailblazer I take to my paintshop and a 93 5.0 LX vert. for a daily toy.
