    Power Antenna Repair

    Guys my power antenna went up and failed. I removed the antenna. I have replaced the nylon line in older GM power antenna's what I need to know is it the same concept by drilling out the rivits andreplacing the nylon line and top section? The motor runs so I have ruled out the motor. Can the kit be purchased aftermarket or will I have to go to GM? Thanks

    If you can find the mast for sale on Ebay (there was one for sale last week but none for sale now) you're supposed to be able to just pull the old mast and nylon line out and replace it with the new mast. I don't know how well this would work if there is a large portion of the old nylon line still left inside the motor housing. I wish they'd just held the motor housing together with bolts instead of using rivets covered by plastic.

    Easier said then done. I'm going to have to disassemble the motor and remove the broken pieces of the old nylon line. I was hoping it would be easier to fix.

    Hey if you haven't ordered yours yet, then you can actually get it cheaper through Crutchfield. And if you want, I am wanting to do a good write-up with details and photos, and since I have already fixed mine, I am looking for someone who would send their power motor to me and the mast, or I could order the mast, do all the work and ship it back to them, ready to install. All I would charge for is the mast itself if I ordered it and shipping back to you. The time I spend doing it would be for a benefit for this whole community and I think time well spent. Let me know.

    Thanks for the good offer I bit the bullit and bought the kit from GM which cost me $58 dollars. My daughter is using the car and I wanted to repair it before she left to go back to school.

    Since I start and stop the engine and or work on my car a lot (listen to the radio too), when mine went out I just purchased the gm base and mast for a 99 camaro and now its manual...when I cover it I just unscrew the mast...plus I can use different style antenna masts (BitViper mod!) based on my driving areas...
    IE: when I am in town I have a small stubby mast, when I am out in the country I use the regular mast, works great.

    Cost was like $20 thru gm parts direct for the o/e parts not including the stubby mast.

    small mast;

    regular mast;

    I can swap them in like 60 seconds or less...
    Regards,
    Todd

    Good looking car and a pretty smart idea on the antenna.If mine fails again I will go that route.
