    possible fuel pump?????

    hey everybody
I'm new to the forum we have a 1998 Red Trans Am and I need some help.We came home from a cruise last weekend and heard a squealing noise drivers side back by the gas tank. This was with the car parked and idling I shut it down and did'nt start it back up till the next day and no noise.I didn't take it for a ride for fear the fuel pump may crap the bed.Any thoughts on the problem or tests I can perform????I've got a bad back so I'm limited on things I can do.
This is one kick a$$ forum and I thank you for any help you can provide.

If you can get it to start making the noise again, gently hit the area around the fuel pump and see if the noise changes at all... if so... pump.

I'd purchase or borrow a fuel pressure gauge - should be about 58-60 at idle. Another thing to consider is changing the fuel filter if it's been a long time, maybe the pump is working against it? Good luck with it, fuel pump swaps aren't fun.
