    Pesky "Skip Shift"

I have had my '01 WS6 car for about 3 weeks now and have a question. Do most of you 6-speed owners deactivate the "Ship Shift" feature? A lot of the time it doesn't bother me but yesterday driving through town, it really got on my nerves. I'd like to know the Pro's and Con's and where is the best place to get one of these.

I did the Radio Shack Resistor mod about 10 yrs ago and never looked back.
Not that it doesn't work but in certain situations it can be annoying and dangerous. Also if I wanted the ECM to control shifts I would of bought a Slushbox JMO.

I got a skipshift eliminator kit from Summit. $20 plus $10 shipping. Plugs right in with no cutting wires.

    Skip Shift Eliminator

When I bought my '98 with a 6 speed, I could not believe that I would not be able to shift into 2nd gear after getting on it hard in 1st. Excuse me??? No one will tell me how to shift. Here's the fix:

    http://www.adaptiveperformance.com/SKIPSHIFT.htm

It's a plug and play install and you'll never have to be told to shift to 3rd again from 1st....NEVER!

I used the Diablo sport to shut off the skip shift eliminator. However I must say when gas prices were over $4.00 per gallon I tried to shift as if it were on. Did not do to much to help my gas mileage so might as well drive it like it was meant to be driven.

Got my skip shift eliminator from SLP, what I like about doing it this way is the light will still come on when the PCM wants me to skip to 4th, but I have the option to do it or not.

Can anyone tell me, when you program it out with the Diablo or whatever else, will the light still come on when the PCM wants you to skip shift?

With the diablo under the settings you want to turn off CAGs

Just to clarify, even without CAGS deactivated, if you got on it hard in 1st and got the revs above ~2500 RPM, skip shift would not engage and you'd be free to shift to 2nd. Only when you are babying it would the CAGS guide you into 4th (instead of 2nd) from 1st.

But yeah, I had already disconnected the CAGS solenoid on my '94 Z28 'vert (which didn't require a resistor to avoid at SES light), before I traded it and did the 10-cent / 10-minute resistor mod on my '98 WS6 before I rolled 200 miles on the ODO.

I'm going to be the odd one out and say that I don't mind it.

Frankly, once you know that it only comes on between 1500 and 2500 rpms (after a complete stop), you should no longer have any problems with it.

Like posted above: If you're at WOT it won't come into play, as you will be going over 2500 rpms before shifting.

If you're in slow traffic either shift before it comes on (really slow traffic) or wait till it goes above 2500 (not snail, but turtle).

I use it a lot and get an average of 23-24 mpg and mostly city driving in traffic.

I don't mind mine, I just learned to give it a bit more gas before shifting.

so what if i just disconect it w/out the resistor? What does the resistor do?

I think if you're above 10% on the throttle the skip shift disconnects.
