    which oil to use?

im changing my oil this weekend and i was wondering whats the BEST oil for me to use? i have 104k miles on mine so i want something to protect against sludge and that is good for high mileage engines.

Mobile 1 you will pay a little extra for, but its well worth it. You might want to look into mobile 1 synthetic. As soon as I break my engine in, I will run Mobile 1 synthetic 5W-30

    Mobil 1 is grossly overpriced.
Not even 100% synthetic anymore. Still a great oil, just not at the price.

I hear Pennzoil Platinum is a great synthetic.

    Not really.

Plenty of oils better AND cheaper than Mobil 1.

i think most oils are the same but when i was younger i helped at a machine shop for trade for machine work and was shown the oil pan of an engine that was said to have run penzoil since new and it was caked with a gooy waxy looking stuff so i have to say no to penzoil

    Dino Pennzoil = bad.
    Pennzoil Platinum = good.

Not saying you have to try it.

with roller cam engines you canuse syn from first start most people still do the first run with regular oil just to wash out the assembly lube that is what I do and seems fine I also dont really take it easy on a new engine anyway except for the initial run about 30 min to an hour then cool change oil then its ready to go as long as the first run goes good and I always say "if it breaks it needed fixed anyway"
