    You lose AT LEAST that much running open headers.

    Backpressure is a good thing...to a point. Open headers on a mostly stock car will lose power.
    It might make a touch more power....but not until damn near redline. You would lose the power under the curve thus lowering the ET's.


    You and I can gain from it. More cam, more cubes, more compression.
    But I can prove it even on my car that with my cutouts open, I lost power under 4200 RPM's.

    yeah for stock it maybe that... for modded cars, balance the cam, cubes with amount of backpressure... true!

    So if you got open headers on a stock car you'll end up losing power?
    I always thought that since it having less restriction naturally the engine will breathe better but I really never thought about any "backpressure" issues!

    SO really you should get keep the closed exhaust system until you put in like heads cam package? and what about turbo's? maybe this should be moved to a different thread.

    Nice ride! I had a '92 Firebird in high school and college. Beautiful hunter green paint, flawless tan cloth interior, TBI V8 with flowmaster exhaust (not too fast, but nice V8 rumble). One of the saddest days of my life was when I totaled it in 2001. In my opinion, the '91 and '92 firebirds were the nicest of all the third-gen f-bodies. You don't see a lot of nice ones around anymore, someday I want to get another one and resore it.
